MTV announces Video Music Awards categories

(Yahoo!) - MTV can expect a lot of Instagram and Vine likes Wednesday.

The music channel used the social media platforms to announce the nominees for various Video Music Awards categories.

In a post around 8:30 a.m. ET, the network revealed that Justin Timberlake’s “Mirrors,”Macklemore & Ryan Lewis featuring Wanz’s “Thrift Shop,” Bruno Mars’s “Locked Out Of Heaven,” Robin Thicke featuring T.I. and Pharrell’s “Blurred Lines” and Taylor Swift’s “I Knew You Were Trouble” are competing for the big title.

The six-second clip featured a construction paper cutout of an animated figure with the head of a teleprompter that flashed the list of Video Of The Year contenders. Videos for additional fields, including Best Male Video and Best Female Video, emerged sporadically.
